Sheringham beach; your questions answered

If travelling by car, once you enter the town it is best to park in one of the many public pay & display carparks and walk through the town to the beach. If traveling by train, the Poppy Line, the station is located a short walk to the beach.

The beach is located to the North of this vibrant seaside town and parking at the beach front is not readily available however if you do decide to drive through the town, there is a small long stay carpark on Cliff Road (NR26 8BN). The main car park is the one you are more likely to see when driving into Sheringham, this at the top of Station Road (NR26 8RG), this operates a chargeable pay and display system. Plenty of free roadside parking in the more residential areas is an option.

Toilets at Sheringham Beach (inc disabled) are pretty well covered and you shouldn’t be caught short. There are facilities on the West end of the main promenade, and to the East so both are ideal for the beach. The East prom toilets are brightly coloured beach hut style structures with disabled facilities, showers, baby changing facilities and well placed for the main part of the beach.

Dogs are very much welcome on Sheringham beach however between 1 May & 30 September there are restrictions for dog-walking on a small area, this being the main beach between the Lifeboat Station to the west and the start of the beach huts to the east. There are no restrictions from October to April. You can of course walk your pooch along the promenade and you’ll soon find a stretch of beach where your pup can scamper about and enjoy the open space.

Sheringham beach is very family and child friendly, with wide expanses of golden sand when the tide is out. At high tide it can be more cobbles than sand so definitely worth checking the tide times before you visit, if the beach is important to you. It has Blue Flag Status which means it is clean and is a safe environment for you to enjoy. A very family friendly beach that is also patrolled by Lifeguards at high season.

Sheringham is a popular seaside destination, especially during the summer months and on sunny weekends or holidays. During these peak times, the beach can become more crowded with both locals and tourists. Visiting during weekdays or the off-season can offer a quieter beach experience.

Sheringham beach can be suitable for swimming, especially during calm weather conditions. The beach has a gently sloping shoreline and is generally safe for swimming. However, it’s essential to be aware of factors such as tides and currents, which can affect swimming conditions. Pay attention to any safety advice or warnings provided by lifeguards if they are on duty, and adhere to designated swimming areas.

Yes, Sheringham beach typically has lifeguards on duty during the summer season. These trained professionals are there to monitor the water and ensure the safety of beachgoers between the hours of 10am and 6pm, making it a safer place for swimming. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check with local authorities or lifeguard stations for the specific schedule and availability of lifeguards during your visit. There are two Lifeguard Stations, one each on:

Sheringham East Beach:
Daily 01 July-03 September.
Sheringham West Beach:
Daily 29 April – 10 September.
